How to Install MultiMC on ChromeOS (via Crostini)
Note: This tutorial was written for version 85 of ChromeOS
Step 1 - Setup the Linux Terminal:
support.google.com/chromebook/answer/9145439?hl=en
Step 2 - Install MultiMC
- Download the Linux (Ubuntu) version of MultiMC from this page: multimc.org/#Download
- Open up the Files application, navigate to your Downloads folder, double click the MultiMC deb file, and click "Install" on the pop-up window
Step 3 - Install Java
- Open the ChromeOS Linux Terminal
- Type the command "sudo apt-get update", followed by "sudo apt-get upgrade", to make sure all your package lists are up to date
- Type "sudo apt-get install default-jre" to install Java
Step 4 - Fix Mouse & GPU Acceleration Support
Type chrome://flags#exo-pointer-lock into your search bar
Enable "Pointer lock for Linux applications"
Type chrome://flags#crostini-gpu-support into your search bar
Enable "Crostini GPU Support"
If you don't do this, the pointer won't properly lock into the Minecraft window and it'll drift off from the center and get stuck on the sides of the screen when trying to turn, and the performance of the game will slow down to a crawl without the GPU acceleration.
Note: If when trying to open the MultiMC application it refuses to open, type chrome://restart into the titlebar of your Chrome window, which'll do a software restart of ChromeOS and close all the applications in the background. Then, try opening MultiMC from the launcher again.
